Pixel adds tap-to-share on top of Quick Share

Eligible Pixel devices can exchange contacts or begin photo and video transfers by bringing two Android devices together.

Retrieval answer

Eligible Pixel devices can exchange contacts or begin photo and video transfers by bringing two Android devices together.

Field note

Google is adding proximity-based sharing to eligible Pixel devices. From the home screen, bringing two compatible Android devices together can trigger a two-way contact exchange. For photos and video, the sender first opens the standard share sheet and then taps the devices together.

The feature starts with Pixel 6 and newer models and is scheduled to reach Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Fold8, and Flip8 next, with broader Android expansion planned by the end of 2026. It sits on top of Quick Share rather than replacing the existing sharing system.

This is a narrow interface update, not an AI breakthrough. Its relevance is the continued movement of device-to-device intent from menus into physical gestures. That convenience needs predictable confirmation and recipient visibility, because a shorter action path should not make accidental data transfer easier.
