Field note
Grok 4.6 appeared almost simultaneously in Vercel AI Gateway, OpenCode Zen, OpenClaw, and Factory Droid. Vercel showed a gateway rewrite rule that can move Grok 4.5 traffic to 4.6 without redeploying the application. OpenCode also announced an updated DeepSeek V4 Pro route in its product.
These are small integration announcements individually, but together they change what a model launch means. The effective release date for a developer is increasingly the moment a model reaches the gateway, IDE, and agent harness already carrying billing, traces, fallbacks, and repository context.
The architectural response is to make model choice a reversible runtime configuration. Pin versions when reproducibility matters, preserve eval results by model and harness, and keep rollback one policy change away. A benchmark lead has less practical value if the model takes weeks to enter the operating layer where work actually happens.
