Cursor says X Subscription switches stay optional and is probing reports of faster-than-expected usage burn

In one minute

Cursor said on October 20, 2026 that existing subscribers do not have to move to its X Subscription.

What changed: Cursor says current subscribers can keep legacy plans with no migration timeline, switching is optional and permanent, and it is investigating reports of faster-than-expected usage burn.

Current plans will continue to work as they do now, including third-party model usage. The company gave no migration deadline and said it would provide advance notice before changing that position.

Users can still move among legacy plans, such as Pro, Ultra, and Pro+. But a completed switch to the unified X Subscription is permanent: legacy plans cannot be repurchased once they end. Before checkout, Cursor says users are told that third-party models are not included in the plan price and are billed separately based on usage.

Cursor is also investigating reports that usage limits on unified plans are being exhausted faster than expected. It said some consumption appears connected to newer included features, including Grok Imagine, while other cases remain under review. The forum update does not establish how many accounts are affected, the precise cause of each report, or whether Cursor will change limits, pricing, or refunds.
