Zoom acquires Onyx, open-source enterprise search that feeds context to AI agents

In one minute

Zoom announced on October 23, 2026 that it has acquired Onyx, the open-source enterprise-search and knowledge-management platform formerly known as Danswer.

What changed: Zoom’s acquisition of Onyx adds a new open-source, self-hostable enterprise-search product to the broader enterprise-context-for-AI-agents discussion.

Onyx will join Zoom AI Services; its co-founders, Chris Weaver and Yuhong Sun, and the Onyx team have joined Zoom.

According to Zoom, Onyx connects to more than 50 enterprise applications, including documents, wikis, ticketing systems and customer records. It supplies real-time organizational context to users and AI agents. Zoom says the platform has a community of more than 30,000 developers and processes more than one million user queries per week; it names NASA, Nebius and Hudson River Trading among its enterprise users.

Zoom says Onyx will remain a standalone platform and will stay open source, model-agnostic, app-agnostic and self-hostable. That includes deployment on an organization’s own infrastructure for data-sovereignty or on-premises requirements.

The announcement does not disclose the purchase price, transaction terms, product roadmap, integration dates, or whether licensing, pricing, support, or deployment policies will change after the acquisition.
