WebSocket support in Vercel Functions is now generally available.

In one minute

Vercel has made WebSocket support in Vercel Functions generally available.

What changed: Vercel Functions WebSocket support has reached general availability, with 300 million connections served since its late-June beta and 15 million served daily.

The feature had been in public beta since late June.

Vercel says its CDN has served 300 million WebSocket connections since that beta began and now serves 15 million connections per day. The company lists AI chat, streaming, and real-time multiplayer applications as uses, and says WebSockets also support the real-time models available through AI Gateway.

WebSocket connections use the same limits and pricing as other Function invocations. Under Vercel's Active CPU pricing, CPU is billed only while messages are being processed, rather than for the full lifetime of an open connection.

The announcement does not specify plan-level limits, regional availability, connection duration limits, or an independent performance comparison with the beta service. It also does not provide customer-level usage data or pricing examples for persistent connections.
