Recent coding-agent releases are clustering around the model rather than inside it. Cline added Kimi K2.7 Code, Vercel published ready-made sandbox images for coding agents, Mem0 demonstrated persistent memory for Cursor, and OpenAI's define-goal skill formalized an objective and completion state for long-running work.
The common product surface is a workbench: execution environment, state across sessions, model access, reusable instructions, cost controls, and recovery when a run stops. Once those pieces exist, the underlying coding model can change without discarding the whole workflow.
That changes how teams should compare agents. Code-generation quality remains necessary, but the operational questions are whether the sandbox is reproducible, memory is inspectable, goals terminate cleanly, and artifacts can be reviewed and resumed. The durable advantage may sit in that surrounding system rather than in temporary access to one model checkpoint.
