The companies plan to combine Chroma’s context and memory infrastructure with Replit’s agent platform to build an enterprise context layer.
The immediate service change is to Chroma Cloud. Chroma said it will responsibly wind down its existing cloud service during the next 60 days and directed affected customers to a separate wind-down timeline. The announcement does not give migration terms, pricing, or a closing date for the transaction.
Open-source ChromaDB will continue under Apache 2.0, according to the post. Replit says it will keep contributing to the project as it extends the technology for enterprise context. Chroma reports 6 million monthly downloads and just under 30,000 GitHub stars for the open-source project. The source does not establish which Chroma Cloud features, customer arrangements, or staff roles will carry over after the acquisition.
