Physicist Christopher Stubbs joins Anthropic's Long-Term Benefit Trust \ Anthropic

In one minute

Anthropic said on October 21, 2026 that Christopher Stubbs has joined its Long-Term Benefit Trust.

What changed: Anthropic adds physicist Christopher Stubbs, former Harvard dean and national-security adviser, to its Long-Term Benefit Trust.

Stubbs is an experimental physicist, the Samuel C. Moncher Professor of Physics and Astronomy at Harvard, and a former Dean of Science there from 2018 to 2024.

Anthropic describes the Trust as an independent body within its public-benefit-corporation structure. It has authority to appoint a majority of Anthropic’s board and advises the board and company leadership on critical decisions, particularly those involving AI risks and societal impacts. Trustees are independent of management and investors.

Stubbs is the Trust’s first physicist. Anthropic cites his work in observational cosmology and precision measurement, his government advisory experience in national security and arms control, and his writing on reproducible AI-assisted research. He joins chair Neil Buddy Shah, Richard Fontaine, and Ben Bernanke.

The announcement does not state that Stubbs is joining Anthropic management or its board, identify any immediate governance decision, or specify a change to Anthropic’s products, model access, or policies.
