Open Responses API spec joins the Agentic AI Foundation alongside MCP and A2A, with AWS backing

In one minute

Open Responses has joined the Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF) as a project, according to an AWS Open Source Blog post.

What changed: Open Responses joins the Agentic AI Foundation under open governance, with AWS backing; prior coverage described the foundation and MCP but not this addition.

The specification is now under open governance alongside MCP and A2A.

Open Responses is based on the OpenAI Responses API. It defines an open format for calling language models, streaming results, and running tool-use loops. The specification includes a common request-and-response model, semantic streaming events, versioning, compliance tests, and rules for provider-specific extensions.

AWS says it employs a core maintainer of Open Responses. Amazon Bedrock has supported the Responses API since December 2025, and AWS says that interface is available across dozens of models. The post says developers can use the OpenAI SDK with Bedrock by changing the base URL and API key.

The source does not establish which other providers fully implement Open Responses, how broadly its compliance tests are used, or whether AAIF governance will lead to adoption as an industry standard.
