kwant launches as an open-source, self-hosted single binary for running a team of AI bots with handoffs, routines and approvals

In one minute

Kwant has launched as an open-source, self-hosted runtime for operating a team of AI bots from a single binary.

What changed: Kwant adds a distinct open-source, self-hosted multi-agent runtime, distributed as a single binary with bot handoffs, routines and approvals.

The project is built with Rust and React and is intended to run on a laptop or VPS.

Its repository says bots can work in separate spaces, share chats, hand work to one another through @mentions, and run scheduled routines. Kwant supports Claude, Codex, and Grok through logins or API keys. It also says it can move to another configured account when one reaches its usage limit.

The runtime places approval gates before commands, edits outside a working folder, and tool calls. The source does not establish production reliability, adoption, security properties of a deployment, provider pricing, or the practical limits of its account failover and multi-agent workflows.
