HumanLayer open-sources its core coding-agent platform under Apache 2.0

In one minute

HumanLayer published the source code for HumanLayer Core under the Apache 2.0 license.

What changed: HumanLayer is newly open-sourcing its core coding-agent platform under Apache 2.0; none of the archive items covers this release.

The October 23 post says the release contains the same code used by HumanLayer Cloud.

The repository includes an Electron desktop application, a Tauri build, the web UI, and the humanlayer CLI daemon that runs Claude Code and Codex sessions on users' machines. It also includes the cloud API, an Electric proxy for syncing Postgres data to clients, sources for the humanlayer-pi and humanlayer-opencode plugins, RPI skills, a Linear CLI, and data models for organizations, teams, projects, tasks, sessions, plans, comments, diffs, and pull requests. GitHub, Linear, Jira, and Slack integrations are included.

HumanLayer says self-built deployments send no telemetry unless operators configure keys or DSNs. A Docker Compose file is available to run the full stack, although some third-party API keys, including WorkOS, Slack, and Linear, remain mandatory for some startup paths. The hosted free and paid service is unchanged for now.

The post does not establish the production maturity or security of self-hosted deployments, nor does it specify a timeline for making third-party dependencies optional or adding AWS, infrastructure-as-code, and Kubernetes deployment options.
