HumanLayer open-sources its coding-agent control plane under Apache 2.0

In one minute

HumanLayer said on October 23, 2026 that it has open-sourced HumanLayer Core under the Apache 2.0 licence.

What changed: Same event as HumanLayer open-sources its core coding-agent platform under Apache 2.0

The company describes the release as the same code used by HumanLayer Cloud.

The repository includes Electron and Tauri desktop builds, the web application, a daemon distributed through the humanlayer CLI that runs Claude Code and Codex sessions on users' machines, the cloud API, and an Electric proxy that synchronizes Postgres data to clients. It also includes source for humanlayer-pi and humanlayer-opencode plugins, RPI skills, a Linear CLI, and data structures for organizations, projects, tasks, sessions, plans, comments, diffs and pull requests. The listed integrations are GitHub, Linear, Jira and Slack.

HumanLayer says a self-built deployment sends no telemetry unless operators configure keys or DSNs. It says the full stack can currently be started with Docker Compose, but some third-party keys, including WorkOS, Slack and Linear, remain required for processes to start. The company says it plans to make those dependencies optional. Existing hosted free and paid users are unchanged for now.

The announcement does not establish the maturity, security, production reliability, or operating cost of a self-hosted deployment. It also does not provide a date for optional third-party dependencies or support for AWS, infrastructure-as-code, or Kubernetes deployments.
