Google Cloud launches Agent Compute Engine for sandboxed agent runtimes

In one minute

Google Cloud announced Agent Compute Engine on October 22, 2026, a purpose-built service for running agent workloads in hardware-isolated microVM sandboxes.

What changed: Same event as GOOGLE 🔥 : A new Agent Compute Engine for Google Cloud has been introduced.

Google says the service already powers Gemini for business work tasks and will enter preview in the coming months.

The service uses rapid-boot microVMs, copy-on-write memory sharing, checkpoint-and-restore for idle sessions, Hyperdisk persistence, and short-lived per-agent credentials. Google says credentials are injected outside the microVM, while Agent Gateway provides observability, policy, and security evaluation. The runtime uses Titanium IPUs and a Cloud Hypervisor boundary.

Google also open-sourced Agent Substrate for GKE, a Kubernetes-native runtime supporting microVM or gVisor isolation. Google reports up to 10x compute density versus traditional compute and, in a 200,000-agent benchmark, 500 activations per second with under-500 ms suspend-and-resume latency. The announcement does not provide preview dates, pricing, regional availability, independent benchmark validation, or general-availability terms.
