The index can be searched through the Firecrawl plugin in ChatGPT and Claude. Developers can use the /search/gov API endpoint, the firecrawl_gov_search tool in Firecrawl's hosted MCP server, or the firecrawl gov CLI command. Searches do not consume Firecrawl credits and can be run without an API key; adding a key raises rate limits. Scraping a returned page for its full text uses standard scrape credits.
Firecrawl says the index is US-only for now and links results to their source pages, as well as connecting pages to cited laws and cases. The announcement does not establish that the index is complete, that individual rules are current, or that a returned rule applies to a particular legal situation. Firecrawl advises users to check the original source, jurisdiction, and effective date.
