Cloudflare links vulnerability discovery to defense with OpenAI

In one minute

OpenAI published a customer case study on October 21, 2026, describing Cloudflare’s use of Daybreak and Codex.

What changed: OpenAI’s case study adds Cloudflare’s reported results: a 10× reduction in development resources, a three-day Codex rebuild costing $1,100, and 234 billion daily threats blocked on average.

Cloudflare says it proxies roughly 20% of web traffic and blocks an average of 234 billion cyber threats daily across its network, based on Q1 2026 figures.

Through an early-access Vulnerability Discovery and Remediation service in Cloudflare Managed Defense, OpenAI models accessed through Daybreak investigate customer-authorized code and potential vulnerabilities. Cloudflare combines that work with live traffic and security signals, then prepares proposed code patches and, where appropriate, custom web application firewall rules. Automated checks and Cloudflare review occur before proposals are shared with customers; customers choose whether to implement changes.

Cloudflare also says all of its developers use Codex. In one cited rebuild, four developers built, tested, and deployed a product in three days for $1,100 in token spend. The company estimates the work might otherwise have required months of sequencing and about ten times more developers.

The source is a joint-facing OpenAI customer story. It does not provide independent measurements of vulnerability-detection accuracy, false positives, customer outcomes, or whether the stated development results generalize beyond the cited project.
