Claude chat and Claude Cowork are merging into one Claude, according to posts from the Claude account and Boris Cherny. The merged experience is rolling out to Pro and Max users over the next few weeks. Cherny describes the direction as one Claude that carries context across everything a user is working on.
Merging chat and Cowork turns Claude from a set of separate surfaces into a single assistant that can accept both quick questions and delegated tasks. Instead of choosing a mode up front, the user hands over a question or a report and Claude continues the work even after the laptop is closed, asking when something is unclear. The user keeps the final say on the result.
The change arrives as Claude Code and Cowork have established delegated work patterns, and the merged product extends that pattern to ordinary chat users. Cherny says he has used the experience daily for several weeks and that the rollout will be slow, with the experience tuned for speed and reliability along the way. The posts do not describe how context is shared across tasks, what limits apply to background work, or how reliability will be measured during the rollout.
For teams building on Claude, the default user expectation may move from single replies toward tasks that run and report back asynchronously. Rollout notes for Pro and Max plans that document background task limits and context handling would show how far the merged experience goes.
