ChatGPT’s expanding world of work

In one minute

OpenAI released OpenAI Signals v3.0, an aggregated dataset on work-related ChatGPT use.

What changed: OpenAI releases quarterly data on ChatGPT use across 165 work activities in nearly 100 countries, covering Q1 2025 through Q3 2026 for researchers to compare over time and with economic indicators.

The release maps messages to 165 Intermediate Work Activities, based on the O*NET framework, across nearly 100 countries. The series is quarterly and runs from Q1 2025 through Q3 2026.

The data covers activities including instructional-material preparation, marketing-content development, programming, and business-data analysis. Across 74 countries observed in every quarter, the ten most common activities accounted for an average 51.1% of classified work messages in Q3 2026, versus 56.0% in Q1 2025.

OpenAI says the dataset covers work-related messages from individual ChatGPT plans only; it excludes enterprise messages and Codex use. Conversations are not made available to researchers: messages are de-identified and classified by automated systems, while published results are aggregated, suppressed for small groups, and noised.

The release does not establish why task mixes differ between countries, nor does it demonstrate effects on employment, productivity, or business outcomes. Source: https://openai.com/index/chatgpt-expanding-world-of-work
