Canva launches Craft image model with 2K output and API Canva launched Craft, its first image-generation model, in Dream Lab and via API.

In one minute

Canva has launched Craft, its first image-generation foundation model, in Dream Lab and through its public API.

What changed: Canva’s Craft launch adds a new design-focused image-generation model, available in Dream Lab and through its API, with output up to 2K.

The company says the model is available globally to Canva users and developers. Craft can produce images up to 2K resolution, supports more than 30 preset aspect ratios plus custom formats, accepts prompts in any language, and generates text in 55 languages.

According to the report, Craft separates composition planning from rendering: a planning model maps elements, spatial relationships, scale, hierarchy, and text before a renderer produces the image. Canva says JSON boundary boxing helps Magic Layers turn generated results into editable elements. The company says it trained the model on millions of human-made Canva templates and evaluated more than 25,000 image pairs with designers and researchers.

Canva says Craft is now ten times faster than its first internal version. Craft-fast and Craft-ultrafast, along with reference-image features, advanced editing, and Canva MCP support, are described as upcoming. The source does not establish API pricing, rate limits, access restrictions by Canva plan, independent benchmark methodology, or release dates for the planned features.
