Users can invoke a Skill by typing “/” and its name; Gemini can also build Skills from chats and automatically run one when a prompt matches. The company says multiple Skills can be stacked, and Skills can include reference files such as text documents, PDFs, and images.
Google says Workspace business, enterprise, nonprofit, and education customers will receive the functionality in the coming weeks. Skills are set to replace Gems, with Gems support ending in November for personal accounts, March 2027 for Workspace business, enterprise, and nonprofit accounts, and June 2027 for Workspace education accounts. Google says existing Gems will migrate automatically. The announcement also says sharing and Drive-file support will come to Skills in the coming weeks.
