OpenAI reportedly tells investors annualized revenue is nearing $50 billion
TechCrunch reports, citing the Financial Times, that OpenAI has told investors its annualized revenue is “approaching $50 billion.” That is about $20 billion below the roughly $70 billion figure reported a little over a week earlier.
The earlier figure was derived by OpenAI investors attempting a direct comparison with Anthropic’s annualized revenue, according to the report. The comparison has a methodological caveat: Anthropic counts sales made by its cloud partners, while OpenAI does not. The two reported run rates therefore do not use the same accounting boundary.
The figures are relevant to scrutiny of OpenAI’s large investment commitments, but the report does not establish that revenue declined or that the company revised an audited result.
