Modal makes Clusters generally available
On October 1, 2026, Modal announced that Modal Clusters are generally available to all workspaces. The company describes Clusters as groups of containers for multi-node workloads, launched through the @modal.clustered decorator. Its example requests four B300 nodes and enables RDMA with rdma=True.
Modal says Clusters integrate with its existing Volumes, Cloud Bucket Mounts, and Queues, and that jobs are billed by the second. The release describes a new gang scheduler that considers pending clusters and fleet capacity together, plans placement across nodes, and spins up capacity where needed. Modal also says its RDMA configuration supports PyTorch and NCCL and can deliver up to 6.4 Tbps. These are company-reported capabilities; the announcement does not supply independent benchmark results.
