Anthropic has published a practical guide to getting more value from Claude Code sessions by managing context and token use deliberately.
The core product lesson is that a long session is not free memory. Tool output, repeated instructions, broad file reads, and stale intermediate detail compete with the code and decisions needed for the current step.
Teams can use the guide as an operating checklist: keep tasks bounded, preserve authoritative state in files, load references when needed, and restart or compact when the active context no longer represents the work. The goal is verified progress per token, not maximum conversation length.
