Google Cloud announces Gemini Agent for persistent enterprise work
At Gemini at Work 2026, Google Cloud announced Gemini Agent as a universal work agent accessible through one interface and one API. The company says users can delegate objectives rather than step-by-step instructions, with the agent planning work, using skills and tools, connecting to business systems, and returning finished output.
Google describes cloud-based persistent execution: tasks can continue for hours or days after a user closes a laptop, retaining memory and context across devices and channels. The agent can be scheduled or triggered by events, and can coordinate temporary sub-agents for multi-step work. Google also describes persistent coworker agents with dedicated identities and storage, and says jobs can be routed across Gemini models and Anthropic Claude models.
The announcement frames the product as a governed enterprise agent, with identity and policy management, authorization and permissions, sandboxing, network gateways, and cost controls. The supplied announcement does not establish general availability, pricing, or independent performance results; these are Google Cloud’s product descriptions.
