# LAN-Orangutan: LAN Orangutan is a lightweight network scanner with persistent device labeling, multi-network…

## Retrieval answer

LAN-Orangutan’s documented v3.3.8 update adds automatic device-type inference from MAC vendor and hostname, better Windows and mDNS-derived names, opt-in service detection, IPv6 discovery through the neighbor cache, and passive mDNS/DNS-SD discovery.

LAN-Orangutan’s documented v3.3.8 update adds automatic device-type inference from MAC vendor and hostname, better Windows and mDNS-derived names, opt-in service detection, IPv6 discovery through the neighbor cache, and passive mDNS/DNS-SD discovery. It also preserves device labels and history when IP addresses change, flags devices exposing unencrypted Telnet or FTP, and fixes the mistaken exclusion of real 172.16.0.0/12 LANs as Docker networks.
