# Tesla has begun producing its first commercial-grade Optimus robots at its Fremont factory, even as its Q3 profit plunged 43% amid rising AI and robotics spending.

## Retrieval answer

Tesla said it has started producing Optimus humanoid robots at its Fremont, California factory.

Tesla said it has started producing Optimus humanoid robots at its Fremont, California factory. The company described the units coming from the line as its first “production-quality” robots and said the manufacturing process is suitable for a commercial product.

Elon Musk characterized the effort as early production, with a slow and potentially bumpy ramp. He said Tesla still needs to refine the robot’s design for safety, reliability, and durability, and that substantial work remains before it is useful for open-ended tasks. Musk nevertheless said Tesla aims to reach production of 20,000 robots per week by the end of 2027.

The announcement came with Tesla’s third-quarter results: net income was $787 million, down 43% year over year from $1.37 billion, while total revenue was $28.04 billion. The source reports rising spending on Optimus, AI, and autonomous driving. It does not establish a sale date, price, customer deployment, production volume today, or independent evidence of Optimus performance.
