Meteomatics AG unveiled Strato, a next-generation Meteodrone, at Met Tech World Expo 2026 in Amsterdam on October 6. The company says the multicopter reached 10,438 metres (34,245 feet) during atmospheric sounding, and is designed to operate at altitudes of up to 12 kilometres.

Meteomatics positions Strato as a reusable alternative to balloon-borne radiosondes for repeatable vertical atmospheric profiling. Earlier Meteodrones measured up to six kilometres, according to the announcement. Strato is rated for sustained winds of up to 130 km/h and includes waterproofing, active propeller de-icing, wind-mode control, and real-time telemetry for altitude, wind, temperature, and icing alerts.

The company says it serves more than 700 customers and will publish further technical and engineering material in coming weeks. The announcement does not provide independent validation of the altitude record, flight duration, payload specifications, pricing, commercial availability, or comparative forecast-performance results.
