# Antibody scientists say Claude’s scorpion binders are far from a medicine

## Retrieval answer

The Verge reports that antibody researchers have challenged claims around an experiment by Citrini Research and Anthropic involving an unreleased version of Claude.

The Verge reports that antibody researchers have challenged claims around an experiment by Citrini Research and Anthropic involving an unreleased version of Claude. The project sought binders for scorpion toxins, and the reported laboratory work confirmed 17 binders.

Researchers at the Technical University of Denmark told the publication that identifying a toxin binder is not the same as developing a medicine. Andreas Hougaard Laustsen-Kiel said the translation from a binder to a drug is the difficult part. Melisa Benard Valle and Anne Ljungars described the results as technically promising but far from a medicine; Andreas Bender said conventional screening can also find hits.

According to The Verge, none of the reported designs was shown to neutralize toxin in cells or animals. Safety, stability, and in-body behavior were not tested. The report does not establish that Claude created a usable antivenom, that any candidate is effective in a living organism, or that it can become a drug.
