Isomorphic Labs was formed inside Google DeepMind in 2021 to turn AlphaFold-era structure prediction into drug discovery. It is the best-funded test of whether frontier AI labs can capture value in biotech rather than only selling tools to it. On October 8, 2026, Bloomberg reported that the company is in early talks to raise money at a valuation of at least $40 billion, and possibly as much as $50 billion according to one source. That would be a sharp step up from the $2.1B Series B the company announced only five months earlier.

This matters to builders because a valuation like that is set before any Isomorphic-designed drug has been tested in humans. It would be a bet on the platform, the in-house design engine Isomorphic calls IsoDDE, rather than on clinical results. But the number is not confirmed. The story rests on one report citing unnamed sources, the company has not commented, and Bloomberg says the details could change.

## What we checked

- **Can Isomorphic Labs or Alphabet confirm that a funding round is underway and clarify its terms?** unresolved. Two weeks after Bloomberg's October 8 report, we found no statement from Isomorphic or Alphabet. Bloomberg's syndicated copy says Isomorphic did not respond to a request for comment. Round size, lead investor and timing are undisclosed, and the financing had not closed. [1][2][4]
- **Is '$50 billion valuation' an accurate summary of the report?** partly confirmed. Bloomberg's headline and lead give the figure as 'at least $40 billion'. The $50 billion number is the top of a range attributed to one person familiar with the matter. Calling it a $50B round overstates what was reported. [1]
- **Was the prior Series B valuation (~$17.5B) officially disclosed?** refuted. Isomorphic's own May 12, 2026 Series B announcement states $2.1B led by Thrive Capital but gives no valuation. The ~$17.5B figure appears in secondary reporting with no named source. [3][4]

## What we found

- Bloomberg's report, as syndicated, says Isomorphic is in 'early talks' to raise at a valuation of at least $40 billion, and that one person said it could reach $50 billion. The financing hasn't closed, details could change, and Isomorphic did not respond to a request for comment. The report names no investors and gives no round size. [1][2]
- The documented baseline is Isomorphic's own May 12, 2026 announcement. It describes a $2.1B Series B led by Thrive Capital, joined by Alphabet, GV, MGX, Temasek, CapitalG and the UK Sovereign AI Fund. The announcement discloses no valuation. The often-repeated ~$17.5B figure, and the resulting '2.3x–2.9x step-up', come from secondary reporting without a named source. [3][4]
- Alphabet's role is central but unclear. According to Bloomberg, CEO Demis Hassabis said Alphabet provided a 'large part' of the Series B, and he declined to discuss Alphabet's stake or the valuation. How much of any new round would be internal Alphabet money, and so how independent the price is, is unknown. [1]
- The valuation would come before any clinical results. Bloomberg notes that few AI drug developers have reached clinical trials and none has brought a drug to market. Secondary coverage says Isomorphic's first human trials are targeted for the end of 2026. The pitch rests on platform claims and pharma partnerships: deals with Eli Lilly and Novartis described as worth nearly $3B in upfront and milestone payments, plus a Johnson & Johnson collaboration. [1][2][4]
- The technical story behind the price is self-reported. According to SiliconANGLE's summary of Isomorphic's February claims, IsoDDE finds binding pockets more than 50% better than the closest competing tool, predicts protein-ligand complexes about twice as accurately as AlphaFold, and models antibody interactions about 2.3x better. We found no independent benchmark replication of these numbers in this research. [2]
- Secondary coverage contains errors and should not be trusted on details. For example, SiliconANGLE dates the $2.1B round to March, but the company's own page dates it May 12, 2026. Coverage published after October 8 adds no new sourcing beyond Bloomberg. [2][3]

## What it means

Treat $40–50B as a price being floated in talks, not a market fact. The confirmed facts are smaller. Isomorphic raised $2.1B in May from a mix of Alphabet-affiliated money and outside investors. It is selling a platform story to investors and pharma partners before it has clinical data. And Alphabet is still the dominant backer. If you are building AI-for-biology tools, the signal is still real: capital is pricing proprietary, vertically integrated drug-design engines at levels normally reserved for frontier model labs. That will pull talent and partnership deals toward closed platforms like IsoDDE rather than open AlphaFold-style releases.

Practically, don't base competitive or fundraising decisions on the $50B figure. Watch for things you can verify: a company announcement naming a lead investor and round size, any Alphabet filing disclosure, the first trial registration of an Isomorphic-designed molecule, and independent benchmarks of IsoDDE's claimed advantages over AlphaFold. A first trial starting on schedule by end-2026 would matter more for judging the thesis than the valuation itself.

## Still open

- Will Isomorphic or Alphabet confirm the round, its size, lead investor and post-money valuation?
- How much of a new round would come from Alphabet and its affiliates (GV, CapitalG) versus outside investors?
- What was the actual post-money valuation of the May 2026 Series B? The ~$17.5B figure is unsourced.
- Will Isomorphic start its first human clinical trial by the end-2026 target?
